Constipation Home Remedies - Healthier Alternatives

Constipation is one of those things that no one really wants to talk about; yet everyone suffers from it at some point in their lives. Even though you may be embarrassed by this issue, chronic constipation is not only uncomfortable, it's also unhealthy. Before you run over to the local drug store to buy some sort of over the counter medicine to cure your next bout of constipation, you may want to consider the healthier alternative of constipation home remedies.

Most people know that their diet has a direct impact on having regular bowel movements. If your diet doesn't contain enough fiber you will likely suffer from constipation on a fairly regular basis. Just increasing your daily fiber intake can help prevent, or at least lessen, the amount of times you suffer from this issue.

Here are some other simple daily lifestyle changes you can make starting right now, that will help you greatly reduce the amount of times you have to suffer from constipation:

1. If you are already constipated try drinking a small glass of prune or apricot juice daily until you get back to normal. Then in order to keep yourself regular, you should drink a glass once or twice a week. Your body will let you know how much you need. If you don't like juice you can also eat the fruits, apricots or prunes.

It's also important to drink plenty of water every day. It may sound weird, but there are a lot of people in our country who are dehydrated, they simply don't drink enough water during the day. This can have a lot of negative effects on the body, and constipation is one of them. Drink more water.

2. Flaxseed can help you stay regular and can be stored in the refrigerator for some time. You can grind it up and keep it handy in the refrigerator. You can mix it in with a glass of juice or water or you can sprinkle it on top of your daily bowl of cereal.

3. Try to add some type of movement to your daily routine. Exercise has many health benefits and one of them is to keep your bowels working properly. Something as simple as a daily walk helps keep your digestive tract humming along.

4. There are herbal supplements available that will help you cleanse and detoxify your intestinal tract. Be careful before you use them though, and talk to your doctor about any possible interactions with medicines you are already taking.

These simple constipation home remedies can not only help you cure a bout of constipation but also help you prevent it from happening in the first place. Everyone suffers from constipation at one time or another, even if you eat right and get plenty of exercise, to lessen the frequency just remember to drink plenty of water, eat high fiber foods, take a fiber supplement, and keep moving. If you do that, everything else will stay moving the way it should too.
